Once you have seen all of the relevant staff, you will be ready for the procedure.
A nurse will take you from the patient waiting room up to the operating theatre. This can be a daunting process, but all of our staff are caring and will try to make this process as comfortable as possible.
The anaesthetist will insert a cannula into your right arm, and will put you to sleep.
The termination procedure is on average approximately 8 minutes. You will be asleep for approximately 15 minutes.
The procedure itself is very safe and is performed by a simple suction technique known as curettage. This is the same procedure performed for miscarriages. There are low risks involved with this procedure and in the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy, the procedure is significantly safer than giving birth.
