Post Procedure Care - Surgical Abortion
Immediately after the Procedure
You may spend between 40 and 60 minutes in the Recovery Room where our Nursing Staff will monitor your recovery and ensure you are comfortable and feeling well. Refreshments are available and you will be given a light snack.
Your stay at the Clinic could be from 3 to 6 hours from arrival. You are usually able to return to work the day after the procedure.
Some patients experience mild bleeding and cramping after the procedure, similar to a period. Pain relief will be provided if required. You may be given a prescription for antibiotics if needed.
If you are going to start the contraceptive pill, or change the one that you were previously on, we can give you your first month's supply of the oral contraceptive pill and a prescription for your future supply.
You will be given an instruction sheet with post-operative guidelines. Read this information carefully as it is important. Please follow these instructions for two weeks after your procedure.
- You must NOT drive yourself home, nor catch Public Transport on your own.
- Taxi only if no other means available
